  1. I would like to share this with you:

When I was diagnosed in Oct 2012, a friend, who is an author, suggested I write to express some of my feelings. I am neither a writer nor a poet but ended up writing a "poem" of sorts. I have since shared it so many times and have been told it was really helpful to other patients, their family and friends and caregivers. Not only for BC but other life crisis that the element of color UP! can be applicable. I thought perhaps you may be interested in it for the Breast Cancer Awareness series for Oct 2013
    Poem Title:

    Purple Me UP!

Because I had wondered how or even IF I should share or say

a very good friend offered me this suggestion today

    Create an ongoing prayer request

to acknowledge that cancer had invaded my breast

So here it is and here it goes

I believe the Color Purple is so Magnificent Royal and flows

Coming from all the Masters and the Highest Divine it glows

Representing the greatest knowledge of courage I do find

A great comfort and joy when I see it in my mind

I will be releasing old cells but then replacing renewing and lots of growing

Recreating my health and wellness is also knowing

that I need to be strong and positive throughout my mind body and soul

and YES being UP In PURPLE will more gently accomplish my goal

I embark on this new journey to explore and travel through

You ask me what you can do

And actually I would greatly appreciate just one little favor from you

Please Purple Me UP! This is what I ask

It is just a very small and easy task

Envision me infused happy in my favorite deep velvety color

The Purple of Holy wraps my Soul

Creating comfort, healing and returns me to whole

Then if you want please feel free to add any other

Energy and Light in your own Loving favorite color

Knowing all Healing Caring Love given from the heart is beneficial in any hue

Especially when it is being sent to me through you

Then in Gratitude I will share forward our Rainbows of Energy, Love and Light

with others that also have a challenge to fight

Know that our Purples and all the bright colors we Lovingly combined

will be released to further assist whoever with needs wherever they find

Breathe Deep - Envision yourself calm, relaxed and wrapped in your Favorite Color; healing, growing in knowledge, experience and Living Whole in mind, body and with Spirit; every day has the opportunity

  2. Zach, I just read about your ordeal with cancer. I am a survivor of tonsil cancer, now 4 years past, and praying each day to continue to be healthy. Just to let you know I will be praying for you and having a number of people very dedicated to our Lord Jesus Christ to be praying for you as well. Keep the faith and trust in him. Any time
I can be of assistance or you need to talk, you can call me, Rich, @ 2088670956. Hang in there.

  3. Greetings,

Read your story in the Statesman, quite moving. I was diagnosed with Stage 4 throat cancer a couple of years ago and underwent chemo/radiation, so I'm intimately familiar with the struggle, in particular with the appetite difficulties. I'm compelled to offer my insights. I'm sure you realize how important it is to maintain weight, but it just isn't easy, but there are a few tricks. First of all, TRY EVERYTHING(!!!!), even if you haven't liked it before, so that you can find the most palatable foods. For me, full fat yogurt (Brown Cow) was a lifesaver. I've always loved pizza, but I couldn't eat it. Fresh fruit, however, went down quite well. Strawberry Ensure became my beverage of choice.

Also, you may be against cannabis, but it helped remarkably with appetite stimulation (as well as nausea) in my case. My treatment was in Washington state, so access was good. The strain is very important, i.e., the cannabinoid balance (high cannabidol/low THC content strains worked best).

Best wishes to you, Zach, and your family.
