It's hard to begin a post following a big night of support. Do I start with 'thank you?' Those words look hollow because they don't convey the depth of appreciation we have. I was reminded again by the show of support at the Aspen Leaf fundraiser just how much God has blessed us. Zach's battle has shown me how many others are also fighting a similar battle. And most of those people haven't received the kind of public attention we have…though they would deserve every bit of it! On Friday, a sweet lady introduced herself to us as we were eating lunch. She recognized us from the blog and is battling cancer with 5 kids at home. We were so touched to hear her story. It was a reminder that many have a similar story.
We do not take a single thing for granted that people do for us. It has never been about the money for Zach and I (although we do understand that is why the fundraisers are being organized.) It really has been about people loving on us, praying for the family, encouraging Zach and just being all around amazing. We are incredibly grateful for you!
Some of the first people in Aspen Leaf's doors was the Rocky Mtn basketball team. What sweet guys! I know how much they love Zach and he feels the same about them. The little boys and I ventured down after nap and Zach joined later for a bit. Saturday was his worst day so far but he spent as much time at AL as he could.
I definitely see that chemotherapy has a cumulative effect on the body. Each round is tougher on Zach than the previous. In 1 week Zach will need to return full-time to work. Short term disability will come to an end and it is important to save as much sick leave as possible for the future. Zach will work full days on his "good" weeks. I ask that you begin praying now for the week of March 10th. He needs prayers for energy and prayers for protection that he remains healthy.
In closing, Zach was really, really touched by everyone who reached out last week. He clearly doesn't check the blog anymore because he wondered how so many of you got his number. I won't tell if you don't!
Granted this has nothing to do with Aspen Leaf but just LOOK at this child! An adorable 18 pound at his 4-month checkup.
Clearly wearing a size-too-small diaper.
Bricen and Bode Lords enjoying their lunch!
The Bueno boys chowing down.
Grandma Kathi and Mr. Max. This amazing woman spent ALL DAY and EVENING at Aspen Leaf. She dubbed herself the "unofficial greeter" and thanked family, friends and strangers. Good thing she loves yogurt--she got her fill of it :)
Cousins Jared and Marissa with Max.
Some family who came to eat and chat.
Grandma and Grandpa Ingersoll with cousin Luc.
This kid LOVES the camera!
I got the opportunity to meet some of Zach's wonderful students.
Long time family friends Tam and Jon Anderson with Max.
The Lecertuas.
Grampy Pat added a little bit of everything for Oliver's feast.
Before the assault…
…during the assault…
…quick break for a picture...
…and nearly finished. Oliver was a sticky mess. But very happy and busy the rest of the time!
Zach stopped by for a bit and to sample his favorite--pistachio.
Jenny with Max…whom she nicknamed Baby Hercules. Very appropriate based on his largeness!
Jenny and Ben stopped by before they headed to the C of I game.
My cousin Rachel with her daughter Phoebe. Such a great support to us!
Eagle Christian Church's Saturday night service was followed by lots of frozen yogurt and fellowship.
I wish I had been there to hug every one of you for coming!
